Quick answer

Application portals and profile uploads often cap images at 100 KB. A full-size phone photo can't usually get that small without falling apart, so this workflow first fits it within 1280 × 1280 px, then picks the highest JPG quality that comes in under 100 KB.

What this workflow does

  1. Resize to at most 1280×1280, never enlarged
  2. Convert to JPEG
  3. Compress to under 100 KB
  4. Remove metadata

Why these settings

  • Reducing the size first leaves more of the 100 KB budget for detail, so the result looks far better than compressing a huge photo hard.
  • Each image gets its own quality level, so simple images stay sharp.
  • Images that are already small are never enlarged.
  • If a form also requires exact pixel dimensions, use Customize to set them.
