Quick answer

Instagram shows feed photos at up to 1080 px wide, and a 4:5 portrait post takes up more of the feed than a square one. This workflow crops each photo from the centre to 1080 × 1350 px and saves a 90% quality JPG with metadata removed.

What this workflow does

  1. Crop to fill 1080×1350, never enlarged
  2. Convert to JPEG
  3. Quality 90%
  4. Remove metadata

Why these settings

  • 1080 px wide matches the width Instagram displays, so it doesn't have to resize your photo again.
  • 4:5 portrait gives each post more screen height in the feed than a square or landscape photo.
  • The crop is taken from the centre; if your subject sits near an edge, use Customize and switch to padding instead.
  • High JPG quality leaves room for Instagram's own compression without visible artefacts.
