Quick answer

FreeImageKit resizes a photo to 50 KB for free, in your browser, without uploading it. It shrinks the photo to fit inside 1,024 px on its longest side, then searches for the highest JPG quality that stays at or under 50 KB. That keeps more detail per pixel than compressing a large photo to 50 KB, which suits profile, ID and application photos shown at a small size.

How to use this page

  1. Select one or more photos (JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC) and choose Run.
  2. Each photo is fitted inside 1,024 × 1,024 px first, then saved as the highest-quality JPG at or under 50 KB.
  3. Download each image, or all of them as a ZIP, and check the file sizes.

What 50 KB does to a photo

Results of this page's exact settings on our test photos, measured 2026-10-06 in Chrome. Every result stayed at or under 50 KB. Your photos will differ: the more detail a photo has, the lower the quality it needs to fit.

Never over the limit

If a photo cannot reach 50 KB at these settings, you get a message instead of a file that is too large.

Frequently asked questions

Will resizing to 50 KB change the shape of my photo?

No. The width and height shrink together, so nothing is cropped or stretched. Use Crop Image first if the form needs a specific shape.

Can I resize several photos to 50 KB?

Yes. Select them all; each one is fitted inside 1,024 px and searched separately, and you can download them as a ZIP.

Does 1 KB mean 1,000 or 1,024 bytes here?

1,024 bytes, like most file managers. A few forms count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, which is about 2% less; for those, choose Customize and set the target a little lower, for example 48 KB instead of 50 KB.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Resizing and the quality search run in your browser, so the photos never leave your device. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
